Eat-tion at Suvarnabhumi Airport

If you are passing through in Bangkok and happen to be at Suvarnabhumi Airport and in a mood for a hot bowl of pho, then stop by Eat-tion Restaurant. It is located on 3rd Floor Concord-B and has a slogan or theme of “Thai Inter Food” at a price that won’t break your wallet.

I noticed the restaurant back in 2007 but didn’t check out their menu. This was the place was quiet since it was December 06, 2008, the second day after the airport has been open for business as usual. I walked by to check the menu and the guy holding the menu was walking around in his “get a customer zone”  spotted me and was more than eager to talk to me.  I told him that it was too early for me to eat and will be back in an hour for dinner.

When I went back the Eat-tion, I ordered a cup of tea and a bowl of Thai Beef Ball Noodle Soup, known to the local as Kuay Tiao. It is a clear soup with slow cooked beef musle, thick rice noodle, meat ball, bean sprout, parsley, green onion. To my surprise they added fried garlic to the bowl and I totally forgot to tell the waitress to hold the green onion and fried garlic. At some restaurants the fried garlic is a containner with the rest of the condiments.

They didn’t have a plate full of herbs and vegetables, fresh chili peppers and slices of lime or lemon, typically serve at most Thai or Vietnamese restaurants in the US. For additional flavors I had the choice of sugar, ground dried red chili peppers, chopped red chili peppers in vinegar, and Thai fish sauce or nam pla.

It was delicious food for 180 Baht. Hot water refill for the tea was on the house and I ordered a cup of cappuccino to wash down the chili peppers. I am happy to report the next time I am at Suvarnabhumi Airport I will check out more of their dishes and try something more daring.
